The number of passengers traveling through Turkish airports reached record highs in 2018, according to a new report published by the French-language channel TRT.
According to recent government statistics, Istanbul's three international airports have achieved new figures. The Turkish General Directorate of Aviation has reported an increase in the number of passengers using Istanbul's three international airports (Ataturk, Sabiha, and New Istanbul), with more than 120 million and 213,000 passengers.
According to the data, the year 2018 witnessed a significant increase in the number of passengers, which amounted to six million and 721 thousand, compared to 2017.
On the other hand, the number of passengers traveling between the Turkish regions through local airports has reached about 210 million passengers.
On October 29, 2018, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the first phase of the new Istanbul airport, with the participation of more than 50 high-profile guests from around the world at a historic opening ceremony. The new Istanbul airport will provide access from the city Istanbul to 41 countries within 3 hours, and to 66 countries within 5 hours.
